Pakistan Government authorities planning to normalize the rate of the companies offering ride services in Pakistan. This step was taken just after the massive strike ruins law and order in the twin cities by the local taxi drivers. Their demand was to banned the app based ride hailing service in Pakistan as it a total loss for their livelihood.
Nowadays people became use to the service of Careem and Uber, and it had been successful in gaining trust of the public, as compared to the time it was launched in Pakistan few years back. And as a result there has been a tremendous decline in the business of the local cabs.
According to Express Tribune, Islamabad Transport Authority (ITA) ha some good plans for the service users, they came up with a new policy after aailed consideration with authorities of Careem and Uber and local taxi drivers. They are planning to stream line to lower the ride rates.
Recently the major focus during the strike was on the extremely low amount which Careem and Uber and other services are providing, which make local taxi drivers to keep up. Keeping in view, Mr. Jawad Muzaffar, ITA Secretary stated that they will soon be issuing a specific rate list which the ride hailing services will have to follow strictly.
In addition, another major decision taken by the ITA was that the local taxi care would ensure their registration with these ride-hailing services do not bypass any legal or technical loopholes. It would be mandatory to display a customized sticker on the windshield at the front and back, along with the vehicle fitness certificate, issued by the Motor Vehicle Examiner (MVE). And nearly in future, their taxis might also need to be converted to commercial from the private status.
